Amakhosi Conservation Commitment
Situated in the richly biodiverse Mkuze River valley of Northern Zululand, Amakhosi Safari Lodge is deeply committed to conservation efforts within the region. This area holds significant ecological importance, classified as a KwaZulu Natal protected expansion priority due to its critical biodiversity. Together with the National Freshwater priority area in the Mkuze River, these zones are deemed irreplaceable by conservation authorities.

Conservation Initiatives
- Amazulu K9 Unit: Our dedicated K9 unit, AmazuluK9, plays a crucial role in patrolling the vast 50,000-hectare reserve. With their exceptional tracking skills, the unit has significantly contributed to the reduction of poaching incidents. Continuous funding and support are essential for the unit’s effectiveness and sustainability.
- Cheetah Conservation: As part of the EWT Cheetah Metapopulation management plan, we actively collaborate with conservation efforts to protect and preserve the most threatened big cat in Africa. Our projects involve capturing, monitoring, and relocating cheetahs to ensure their survival.
- Dehorning: Urgent dehorning initiatives are underway to combat poaching threats. Despite previous efforts in 2016, rhino horns have regrown, making dehorning a critical necessity. Your support can help fund these crucial dehorning operations, safeguarding our rhino population.
- Alien Invasive Plant Eradication: Our full-time team is dedicated to eradicating alien invasive plants in our river systems as part of the government Herbicide Assistance programme. By removing these invasive species, we protect the natural habitats of indigenous flora and fauna.
- Elephant Monitoring and Birth Control: Continuous monitoring, notching, and implementing birth control measures are essential for the sustainable management of elephant populations. Your support can aid in these vital conservation efforts.

Elephant Notching or Capture: Join us in notching elephants for monitoring purposes or participate in capturing and administering birth control to ensure their long-term conservation.
